Dynamic Lockdown and Active Shooter Programs for Schools  and Business

Dynamic lockdown is the ability to quickly restrict access to a location in response to a threat. It aims to prevent or frustrate an attack or threat and prevent people moving into danger. Combined with preventative measures, and used alongside reactive responses such as Run, Hide, Fight. These measures help avoid or assist response to active shooters or violent intruders. Training can include other threats including fire and environmental risks.

Courses range from briefings to full security reviews and process implementation. Programs can be adjusted to suit the organizations requirements. An example is given below:

Active Shooter Security & Crisis Management Program – 3 Days Proposed Course Outline

Course Aim

To develop organizational understanding of, and procedures for, Active Shooter and other security incidents in order to allow faculty to be able to prevent, react to and mange security threats against the school, faculty and pupils.

Course Objectives

  • Comprehension Of The Current Security Threats In The School’s Context

  • Understanding By The Senior Leadership Team Of The Causes Of Workplace Violence

  • Strategies To Identify Threats And How To Report/React To Threats

  • Develop Understanding Of The “Run, Hide, Fight” Principles

  • Create Ownership, By Management & Staff Of Preventative & Reactive Measures

  • Create Standard Operating Procedures & Contingency Plans

  • Build The Ability Of Faculty & Students To Employ Best Practice Actions & Behavior Required

  • Enable All Stakeholders (Including Parents) To Have A Broad Understanding Of The  Organization’s Procedures For Managing Crisis And Their Role In This

  • Introduce Practical Training In Crisis Management For the Management Team

    Additional Objective (If Required)

  • Train Selected Staff In Basic Trauma First Aid & How To Deal With The First Stages Of        Medical Emergencies

Program Outline

Pre-Course – Security Review

Mira-Unity staff and the management team review information on current school structures, administration and security controls.

Day 1 – Security Review and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)/Contingency Planning

Mira-Unity, with selected management faculty (no more than 4 people), review the school’s processes and adapt best practice procedures around the school’s way of working. Scenarios are reviewed, reactions are considered and SOPs/Contingency Plans are confirmed. These procedures are then documented and distributed to all staff for Day 2.

Day 2 – Security Principles

Day 2 is staff training for all school staff. This includes security theory, confirmation of school SOPs and a walk through of procedures.

Day 3 – Crisis Management

Day 3 is to increase the understanding and confidence of the school management team in key crisis management requirements and individual responsibilities This includes:

  • Identifying a crisis & what policies the school has in place

  • Reacting efficiently to the Crisis Cycle

  • Managing a Crisis

Day 3 Continued – First Aid (selected staff)

An introduction to first aid, with a focus on ballistic and stab wounds, for selected staff only.
